Grove Mustang survives shakedown mishap

GROVE Racing’s Gen3 Ford Mustang has escaped without any significant damage following a scare at its shakedown test.

The #19 Penrite Mustang is turning laps today at Winton Motor Raceway, alongside the plain black #6 Ford of Tickford Racing’s Cam Waters.

Grove Racing has full-timers Matt Payne and David Reynolds, plus star co-driver Garth Tander, all on hand.

It was with Reynolds at the wheel that the car came unstuck, caused by its left-front wheel falling off.

A team spokesperson confirmed there was “no significant damage to the car”.

It is nevertheless an unwelcome hiccup at a time when mileage is crucial to understanding the new-generation cars.

The Blanchard Racing Team last week logged 62 laps at its shakedown.

Matt Stone Racing completed 80 laps yesterday at Queensland Raceway with the first of its Camaros – a tally understood to have far outweighed the mileage accumulated by the #17 Shell V-Power Mustang it shared the track with.
