RYAL Harris will switch back to SuperUtes in 2023, the category has confirmed.
Communications from the Haltech V8 SuperUte Series have indicated the Australian ute racing legend will contest the full six-round calendar.
It comes after a season away to try his hand in the Supercars arena.
Harris teamed up with Matt Stone Racing for the 2022 Dunlop Super2 Series, racing a VF Commodore.
A rather difficult campaign ensued, the Gold Coaster ending up 13th in the points – although he did save his best round for last, with results of eighth and sixth in Adelaide.
Harris made a one-off return to SuperUtes last year at the Gold Coast 500, winning three of four races and the overall round aboard a Super Butcher-backed Ford Ranger.
He is yet to announce what car or sponsor he will be aligned with in 2023 but instantly becomes the driver to beat.
Aaron Borg won the 2022 title in Harris’ absence.
Prior to that, Harris has won crowns in various different eras of ute racing in Australia: three under the V8 Utes banner (2012, 2013 and 2015), and one each in the diesel-powered and V8-powered SuperUtes (2018 and 2021, respectively).
The 2023 season will kick off at the Perth SuperSprint on April 28-30 ahead of five further rounds on the Supercars support card at Sydney Motorsport Park, The Bend, Sandown, Bathurst and Surfers Paradise.
