Illness sidelines Crompton at Bathurst

THE voice of the Supercars Championship, Neil Crompton, has been absent from the television coverage of Friday’s action at the Repco Bathurst 1000.

Crompton is missing in action having been struck down by a suspected bout of food poisoning.

His place in the commentary box alongside Mark Skaife during the Supercars sessions has been temporarily filled by Chad Neylon.

“Neil Crompton has been absent from his regular duties today due to illness,” confirmed Supercars via a statement.

“He’s currently recovering and will return to normal duties as soon as possible.”

Crompton has been a key part of the Supercars commentary team since retiring from driving at the end of 2002.
