International heavyweights locked in for Bathurst return

THE inaugural TCR World Tour has been boosted by confirmation Lynk & Co Cyan Racing will field a four-car fleet.

The new series will take in nine regular season rounds across the globe, two of which will come in Australia including one headlining the 2023 Bathurst International.

For Swedish-based Cyan Racing, the commitment represents a return to Australian shores, where it is well known for its part in the Volvo Supercars program.

Volvo partnered with Garry Rogers Motorsport from 2014 to 2016, future champion Scott McLaughlin taking the combination to six race wins.

Lynk & Co Cyan Racing has a history of success on the world stage, most recently winning both the drivers’ (Yann Ehrlacher) and teams’ titles in the 2021 World Touring Car Cup.

WTCR wound up last year, its final season marred by tyre safety concerns which saw Lynk & Co Cyan Racing pull out midway through.

However, the team will be back with a vengeance in 2023 using its Lynk & Co 03 TCR model.

“We are delighted to continue our successful and long-term cooperation with Lynk & Co and (parent company) Geely Group Motorsport in World Touring Cars with the new and exciting TCR World Tour from 2023 and beyond,” said Cyan Racing team manager Fredrik Wahlén.

“This is the highest level of touring car racing and with new sporting regulations, as well as new tyres compared to the WTCR, we have no doubt that the competition will be extremely tough.”

Added Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, head of Geely Group Motorsport: “We fully support Cyan Racing in the decision to enter the TCR World Tour, opening a new chapter of a hugely successful journey between the team and Lynk & Co which began in 2018.

“The decision of Lynk & Co Cyan Racing to enter the TCR World Tour further underlines our commitment to touring car racing as an unparalleled product marketing platform.”

The team is yet to unveil its driver line-up.
