Kostecki on top, DJR hits trouble in Bathurst warm-up

BRODIE Kostecki has continued his red-hot form to top the very last pre-race hitout at the Repco Bathurst 1000.

One-lap pace wasn’t exactly the focus for teams now though, with the 20-minute warm-up giving teams the chance to complete final preparations.

All up, 54 of the 56 drivers took to the track for an early Sunday sighter at the Mountain.

GRID: Where every car will start the 2023 Repco Bathurst 1000

That should have been 55, but Anton De Pasquale never got out of pitlane after a brake change issue struck down Dick Johnson Racing.

The #11 Shell V-Power Mustang missed the entire second half of the session, eventually having to be pushed back into the garage.

De Pasquale’s co-driver Tony D’Alberto did at least get to turn four laps before then, that figure being the equal-lowest managed in the 28-car field.

The other driver who did not spend time in the car was Mark Winterbottom, whose #18 Camaro was the only other entry with less than seven laps in the session.

All four of its laps were driven by Michael Caruso, either side of a seven-plus-minute visit to the pits for a set-up change.

It’s been a rocky race preparation for Winterbottom/Caruso, who’ve reported an “abnormal” difference between the two Team 18 cars.

For everyone else, it was either seven or eight laps completed between their respective pairings.

AUDI-CHEV-PORSCHE-FORD: The 2023 Bathurst Supergrid

Directly behind Kostecki on the leaderboard was the car it will share the front-row of the grid with later this morning: the #88 of Broc Feeney/Jamie Whincup at 0.0902s adrift.

Andre Heimgartner/Dale Wood were third, while David Reynolds/Garth Tander were the top Ford in fourth.

At least five cars endured offs: Jayden Ojeda and Dylan O’Keeffe at Hell Corner, Cameron Hill and Kevin Estre at the Chase, and James Moffat at Murray’s Corner.

Race start is scheduled for 11:15am AEDT.
