Kostecki secures Adderton-backed NASCAR debut

BRODIE Kostecki will become the second Repco Supercars Championship ace to make his NASCAR Cup Series debut in as many months.

Hot on the heels of Shane van Gisbergen’s Chicago victory, the Erebus Motorsport driver has been confirmed in a third entry for Richard Childress Racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on August 13.

That will see him compete at the same event as former Supercars star Scott McLaughlin, with IndyCar and NASCAR’s calendars converging on the one weekend.

The one-off opportunity comes after prolonged talks dating back to April between manager Nathan Cayzer and RCR, who invited Kostecki into its camp last month at World Wide Technology Raceway where Kyle Busch went on to win.

“I am thrilled to be making my NASCAR Cup debut at the Brickyard,” said Kostecki.

“It’s an honour to compete at such an iconic venue and against some of the biggest names in motorsport.

“I’m incredibly grateful to RCR for giving me this opportunity and I’m determined to make the most of it.

“Racing is at the core of everything I do, and NASCAR has been a lifelong goal of mine after spending years growing up in the sport’s heartland in North Carolina.

“It’s a whole different world over there and any additional time I can spend racing is only going to help me try and win my first Supercars Championship.

“We got some great exposure to the inner sanctum of the team during our recent trip, and I cannot wait to immerse myself in the team, this time as a Cup Series driver.”

Kostecki’s #33 Chevrolet Camaro will feature major backing from Peter Adderton’s MobileX brand.

“As founder of Boost Mobile and now founder and CEO of MobileX Global we couldn’t be more excited about sponsoring our first NASCAR with international star driver Brodie Kostecki with the Richard Childress MobileX race team,” Adderton said.

“MobileX is all about saving American consumers money on their wireless bill, by using AI to help you know what data you need before you need it.

“MobileX is about being authentic, real and being yourself so there is no better fit than NASCAR as the first outing of the MobileX.”

Adderton also helped the Perth product first enter the Supercars Championship, with Boost Mobile taking naming rights on the Kostecki Brothers Racing wildcard shared by Brodie and cousin Jake in the 2019 enduros.

Now 25 years of age, Kostecki thanked Adderton and fellow supporters Erebus, VAILO, Shaw & Partners, and Southern Cross Truck Rentals.

Erebus CEO Barry Ryan added: “We have always encouraged Brodie’s pursuit of more racing opportunities.

“Providing him with the chance to explore and excel in various racing disciplines not only enhances his skills but also contributes to the overall growth and success of our team.”

At the halfway mark of the Supercars season, Kostecki is just seven points behind title-leading teammate Will Brown.

He won’t be NASCAR’s only international debutant at Indianapolis, with ex-Formula 1 driver Kamui Kobayashi called up for a cameo with 23XI Racing – the team co-owned by basketball superstar Michael Jordan and NASCAR veteran Denny Hamlin.
