Morris wins first race of 2023 Bathurst International

NASH Morris has become the first race winner at the 2023 Supercheap Auto Bathurst International.

Porsche Sprint Challenge was the only category to hold a race today at the Mountain, and it was Morris who got the job done in the Friday afternoon encounter.

Morris pipped Marcos Flack to pole position by 0.0539s and that duo went on to finish one-two ahead of series leader Marco Giltrap, Hamish Fitzsimmons and Oscar Targett.

Elsewhere, there was an unusual situation in the battle for Touring Car Masters pole position.

Marcus Zukanovic remarkably topped qualifying by 29.6961s – that’s because he was the only driver to get a representative lap in between various red flag stoppages.

V8 Sleuth understands the TCM grid will instead be set based on practice results, which doesn’t affect Zukanovic anyway given he also was fastest in that session.

The other category where pole was on the line today was Australian Production Cars, with Tim Leahey taking the outright/Invited honours in his brand-new BMW. Grant Sherrin was best-in-class among the APC competitors.

Frenchman Yann Ehrlacher (Cyan Racing/Lynk & Co) wound up fastest on combined practice times in TCR, James Moffat swept the two Trans Am sessions, and Cameron McLeod topped final Kumho Series practice by 2.4182s.

The Kumho Series will be first out on track tomorrow for qualifying at 8:35am AEDT.
