MSR signs Triple Eight rising star for Supercars seat

MATT Stone Racing has confirmed Cameron Hill as Todd Hazelwood’s replacement for the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship.

The 25-year-old has impressed in his maiden season in a Supercar, establishing himself as a Super2 frontrunner for Triple Eight Race Engineering while also making his Repco Bathurst 1000 debut for PremiAir Racing.

Hill’s prior accomplishments include winning the 2015 Australian Formula Ford and 2021 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia titles, as well as finishing runner-up in the 2017 Toyota 86 Series and triumphing in this year’s Bathurst 6 Hour.

It’s now official that he will graduate to the main game next year in a MSR Gen3 Camaro, beating the likes of Declan Fraser, Jayden Ojeda and Zak Best to the seat.

“It has been a goal of mine for years to compete at the highest level here in Australia,” said the Canberran.

MORE: Why Hill got the nod at MSR

“We have massive potential here at MSR. The team has been building towards Gen3 for some time now.

“Everyone will have brand new cars, and I see it as a big opportunity for myself and the team to make an impact.

“It’s the first time the playing field will have been level for years.

“I am grateful that Matt and the team see my potential and are giving me this opportunity.”

MSR boss Matt Stone welcomed Hill, who will join Grove Racing’s Matt Payne in the 2023 rookie class.

“It’s exciting to have another rookie in the fold here at MSR,” said Stone.

“And in Cam, we see a lot of great potential with the experiences and success that he has had in multiple categories over the past few years.

“I think he is the perfect fit for the changing dynamic that comes with Gen3.”

Hill’s 2023 teammate will be MSR incumbent Jack Le Brocq.

Hazelwood meanwhile will shift to the Blanchard Racing Team in the coming off-season.

Hill’s signing just about finalises the 2023 grid, with Brad Jones Racing holding the only remaining unconfirmed drives and unlikely to make change.
