MSR’s target for Le Brocq replacement

MATT Stone Racing is in the market for a proven Supercars steerer to succeed Jack Le Brocq in its #34 entry.

MSR today confirmed Le Brocq will depart the team at season’s end, with Erebus announcing his signature shortly after.

With naming rights backer Truck Assist also set to shift to Walkinshaw Andretti United, MSR’s 2024 composition is suddenly up in the air.

Speaking with V8 Sleuth, team owner Matt Stone declared the plan is to retain Cameron Hill and recruit an experienced teammate alongside him.

“It was obviously our intention to keep the momentum going and we were happy with our line-up, with Cam as a rookie and JLB as an emerging pro,” said Stone.

“So with him moving on, our intention is to replace like-for-like.

“We want someone who has got proven results in their background, who is capable of picking up where he leaves off and we can keep our momentum of the team going forward.”

Asked of Hill, who is also off-contract, Stone continued: “He’s a great fit for the team. It’s our intention to obviously find an experienced, capable driver for Car #34, and carry on our program on #35 with Cam.”

There are several drivers in the current field who could fit the bill, with Scott Pye, Nick Percat, James Courtney, Todd Hazelwood and Declan Fraser all hunting for a 2024 seat.

Stone added he’s disappointed but understanding of Le Brocq’s Erebus move.

“We’re sad to see him go,” he said.

“I think we’re building towards some really good things for next year, but obviously that seat is currently P2 in the (drivers’) championship and leading the teams’ championship.

“It’s a very hard decision for Jack but obviously it’s an opportunity for him and I wish him all the best.”

Supercars track action at The Bend starts tomorrow with Practice 1 from 9:45am local time (10:15am AEST).
