NZ racer gets Taupō Safety Car call-up

THERE will be a new face behind the wheel of Supercars’ Safety Car at this weekend’s ITM Taupō Super400.

Long-time Safety Car driver Jason Routley will be a rare absentee, staying at home following the birth of his second child.

In his place will be Andrew Turner, a regular in New Zealand racing circles.

Turner has competed in the nation’s Central Muscle Cars category as well as TA2, and was part of the New Zealand team in the TA2 Trans-Tasman Challenge held earlier this year.

As confirmed in Further Supplementary Regulations for the April 19-21 event, Turner will fill in as the Safety Car driver at Taupō with Sarah Brown nominated as the Safety Car Communicator.

Berenice Stratton fulfilled the latter role at the opening two rounds of the season.

Supercars’ pair of all-electric Porsche Taycan GTS Safety Cars have made the trip over to the circuit on New Zealand’s North Island.
