PORSCHE ACE SECURES FINAL BATHURST 1000 SEAT

KIWI international Jaxon Evans will make his Repco Bathurst 1000 debut next month, co-driving Jack Smith’s SCT Logistics Commodore.

The Porsche ace has been confirmed in the Brad Jones Racing-run entry following a successful evaluation day at Winton today, his 26th birthday.

The news means the full field of 56 drivers has now been locked in for the October 9 race, which will feature Evans among seven rookies.

PIT PALS: Rival squads team up for Bathurst

Bathurst will mark Evans’ first Supercars race in any tier, with his only previous V8 experience prior to today having come in a Super2 test at the end of 2018.

Evans’ career to date has unfolded in Porsches, progressing from Carrera Cup Australia – where he was champion in 2018 – to Europe with the German marque.

He’s this year contesting selected races of the NLS Nürburgring Endurance Series in a Porsche GT3R and recently shared victory in a 12 Hour race at the famed venue.

“I arrived back in Australia just last week and to be in the SCT Logistics car today turning laps at Winton has been amazing,” Evans said.

“Endurance racing isn’t new to me, and neither is Bathurst but heading there in a Supercar is definitely going to be a pinch me moment.”

“The car felt very comfortable from the outset and the team has been so enthusiastic and welcoming, I’m feeling really confident about heading to Bathurst alongside Jack and the whole BJR and SCT Motorsport team.”

SCT’s Head of Motorsport, Andrew Jones added: “The evaluation day has been a good opportunity for both Jaxon and the team to work together and get a feel for how each other goes about their business at the circuit.

“From our end, Jaxon has delivered today on what our expectations are from a driver of his calibre, and we now welcome him as part of the team for the upcoming Bathurst 1000 and I think that the combination of Jack and Jaxon is a very exciting one.”

BJR will be among a host of teams testing at Winton tomorrow as Bathurst preparations continue.
