PremiAir ‘pinging off the walls’ after flying Gen3 start

PREMIAIR Racing has flashed its credentials as a contender in Supercars’ Gen3 era after shining in the opening qualifying session of the season.

PremiAir’s pair of Nulon Camaros were fast throughout Friday practice and backed it up when it mattered to be one of only two teams to secure a double berth in the Saturday Top 10 Shootout.

Recruit Tim Slade managed fourth, while James Golding snuck through in 10th.

“The boys were pretty much dragging their feet getting here with just the amount of work and no sleep and all the rest of it but it’s amazing what results can do,” said team owner Peter Xiberras.

“It’s like they’ve had 47 cans of energy drink overnight, they’re just pinging off the walls. It’s great.”

Slade, who is making his 400th Repco Supercars Championship race start this afternoon, was all smiles.

“The car was pretty solid all day yesterday, we haven’t really touched it too much to be honest,” he said.

“As a street circuit does, it evolves quite quickly – the more laps we do, the more rubber goes down – and I think that has probably helped.

“We have kind of let the track come to us in a way so we didn’t touch it then and just concentrated on getting the most out of myself.

“It’s an awesome first result for Nulon Racing so congrats to everyone in the team.”

Also in the Top 10 Shootout, which starts at 12:35pm local time (AEDT), will be Scott Pye, Andre Heimgartner, Broc Feeney, Cam Waters, David Reynolds, Shane van Gisbergen, Chaz Mostert and provisional polesitter Brodie Kostecki.
