Rising star concedes 2023 co-drive unlikely

KAI Allen is arguably the hottest talent in the Supercars pipeline right now but he expects a main game debut will have to wait until at least 2024.

Allen wowed the industry and fans alike with his performances in Super3 last year, often beating older heads and newer cars to be running in the Super2 midfield.

A blemish in the final race of the season at Adelaide cost him the title to Brad Vaughan but that did little to stunt the overall excitement surrounding his future.

Allen has been mentioned as a possible factor in the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship co-driver market, but while he makes no secret of his ambition to reach the top level swiftly, the teenager is set to play the waiting game for now.

“I’d love to but the way the Superlicence points are working at the moment, I don’t have enough points,” he told V8 Sleuth of the potential for a 2023 call-up.

“Obviously that was the main goal but we’ll have to just focus on Super2 this year and then go from there.

“It would have been great but we have just got to try to go as well as we can in Super2 and get as many points as we can and then go from there next year.

“It will be cool to see where we end up and hopefully we can get some results along the way, but first thing is first, you have got to try to do everything right.”

Runner-up in the Super3 Series netted Allen eight of the 13 points he requires to be Superlicence-eligible.

He will form part of a four-pronged Eggleston Motorsport 2023 Super2 line-up, driving the ex-Team 18/Scott Pye ZB Commodore.
