Silverstone test for Supercars wunderkind

SUPERCARS star of the future Kai Allen will become the latest Australian driver to tap into the wisdom of renowned driving coach Rob Wilson.

Allen was a standout in the 2022 Super3 Series, regularly challenging – and beating – multiple Super2 competitors.

A crash in the final race of the season cost him the title to rival Brad Vaughan but Allen nevertheless will step up to the second tier, continuing his relationship with Eggleston Motorsport as well as race engineer Kurt Kostecki.

He will steer the Holden ZB Commodore previously fielded by Team 18 for Scott Pye.

Striving for gains, the teenager will head to Europe in March to work with Wilson.

During his week abroad, he will also get a taste of legendary British Formula 1 circuit Silverstone, testing a Radical SR10.

It was through Radical racer Sebastian Lip that the Wilson opportunity came about, Allen having steered Lip’s SR10 in the Australian Prototype Series leg of the Bathurst International in November.

“I am so unbelievably lucky to be able to get this opportunity and I look forward to learning as much as I can from Rob Wilson,” Allen said.

“For Seb to be prepared to organise and help me in my career is amazing and I intend to make the most of it.”

Reflecting on his Adelaide heartbreak, Allen added: “That was a real learning curve for me.

“I would have loved to win the championship but as a driver we are always so close to the edge and unfortunately I just stepped over it.

“I have definitely taken a lot away from that and I’m looking forward to this year.”

Allen will be part of a four-pronged Eggleston 2023 Super2 line-up also featuring Cooper Murray, Cameron Crick and Jordyn Sinni, while his rivalry with Vaughan will rage on given the latter has signed with Tickford Racing.
