A SUNDAY twilight race has been added to the Supercars spectacle at this year’s Sydney Motorsport Park round.
In addition to the now customary Saturday night race at Eastern Creek, the Sunday Supercars encounter will be pushed back to start in the late afternoon and also finish under lights.
“Night racing at Sydney Motorsport Park has become one of the highlights of the year, for fans and for viewers watching at home from around the globe,” said Supercars head of broadcast Nathan Prendergast.
“We believe this decision improves the overall quality of the on-track show and will bring fans fireworks at Sydney Motorsport Park as the winners cross the finish line in both races.”
Supercars has also quietly indicated a tweak to the event’s name, which will now officially be the Goodyear AutoCare Sydney SuperNight.
Beaurepaires has previously supported the SMP round and was in line to do so this year, but the tyre chain last month was reported to have hit trouble amid a failed sale. Goodyear is currently the parent company of Beaurepaires.
Featuring a pair of 200km main game races, SMP will host Round 7 of the season on July 19-21.
