Supercars confirms formal post-Bathurst parity review

SUPERCARS has announced a second in-season parity review is underway just days after the Repco Bathurst 1000.

As reported by V8 Sleuth earlier this week, the 2023 Great Race sparked action, having been the fifth ‘trigger’ race in the past eight.

Those five are believed to have been, in reverse chronological order, Bathurst, Sandown, both Sydney Motorsport Park races, and the second leg of the Townsville 500.

What this means is there almost certainly will be changes granted to the Gen3 Mustangs prior to the end-of-month Gold Coast 500.

Ford had pleaded with Supercars to approve an upgraded aero kit prior to Bathurst last weekend, but was unsuccessful given the parity review system had not been activated.

That is no longer a hurdle.

“Supercars can confirm that, in accordance with the rules of the Parity Review System, adjustment considerations have now commenced,” said a Supercars spokesperson.

“The Head of Motorsport (HoM) has provided the Supercars Commission with an update following a comprehensive review of the data collected during the Repco Bathurst 1000.

“As outlined in the Parity Review System Terms of Reference, the HoM in conjunction with the Ford Homologation Team, is mandated to present recommendations, including relevant adjustments to the Vehicle Specification Documents and the Rules, to the Commission for implementation.

“The changes once approved, can be implemented prior to the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.”

The first mandatory parity review took place after the Darwin Triple Crown and led to Ford changes prior to Townsville.

Surfers Paradise will host the penultimate round of the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship on October 27-29.
