Supercars eyes 2025 Newcastle 500 relaunch

SUPERCARS has declared its ongoing commitment to the Newcastle 500 event, amid the cancellation of the 2024 edition.

Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes this morning announced the event will not be renewed for next year.

Supercars has now had its say on the matter.

“Supercars held productive discussions with Newcastle City Council earlier this week, regarding the future of the event,” said a spokesperson for the championship.

“As part of that discussion, it was mentioned that in the event Newcastle cannot proceed in 2024, alternative options have been explored.

“We express our gratitude to the NSW Government for their continuous support and understanding.

“Supercars would like to confirm its commitment to racing in Newcastle in the future, and conversations in that regard are already underway.

“Regarding the 2024 season-opening event, Supercars will provide information when all details are confirmed.”

V8 Sleuth understands the hope is for a new long-term deal to be struck starting 2025.

Mount Panorama is firming to replace Newcastle as Round 1 next year on February 23-25, the weekend after the Bathurst 12 Hour.
