Supercars targeting new Gold Coast record in 2024

SUPERCARS already has its sights set on three consecutive years of record-breaking Gold Coast 500 crowds after its latest success in conjunction with Boost Mobile.

A total crowd figure of 201,971 was announced for the last three days, making it the biggest Surfers Paradise turnout since Supercars began promoting the event in 2012.

The figure just surpassed the 2022 edition’s 200,232 people, which had marked the record.

While there was only four racing categories on the bill, there was action aplenty from the on-track Boost Challenge each day to the off-track entertainment such as a huge skateboarding halfpipe and nightly concerts.

It’s the latest successful chapter in the arguably unlikely alliance between Supercars and Boost mogul Peter Adderton.

“We couldn’t be happier, breaking the record from last year which was massive and doing it again, so very happy,” said Supercars event manager Matthew Ramsden.

“Hopefully it has set us up for another record year in 2024.

“We have already started planning on new ideas and improvements, refining the event, so we’re really looking forward to just getting stuck into next year.

“We’re looking at refinements to the Club 500 area, our concerts, potentially looking at new acts, things like that. Just improvements that we can generally make across the board so we can continually improve the event year-on-year.”

Supercars CEO Shane Howard yesterday thanked the event’s supporters.

“Fans have embraced the three days on track and three nights of entertainment package, and it’s been amazing getting around the precinct to see all parts of the circuit lined with fans over the last three days,” said Howard.

“To have more than 200,000 fans once again attend the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 confirms its status as Queensland’s biggest sporting event.

“As well as our three days of entertainment within the track precinct, our aim was to ensure that fans from across Australia and beyond had an array of experiences leading up to the event.

“From the transporter parades through Main Beach to the Surfers Paradise sunset signing session, and the Bathurst 1000 viewing at Burleigh earlier this month, the build-up has been incredible.

“Once again our corporate suites, including the Hellenika Suite at the Beach Chicane and grandstands were popular, while we saw queues lining the gates at the start of each day.

“Boost Mobile activations brought a huge amount of colour and entertainment to fans of all ages as well. Fans enjoyed the party atmosphere, and we showed the Gold Coast off to the rest of the world as one of the best events on the calendar.

“I want to once again thank Minister Stirling Hinchliffe, Tourism Events Queensland, the Queensland Government, Major Events Gold Coast, Gold Coast City Council and Boost Mobile for their extraordinary support of the event.”

While next year’s calendar is yet to be released in full, the 2024 Gold Coast 500 is locked in for October 25-27.
