The Kumho Series car which never raced in the main game

THE Kumho V8 Touring Car Series will bring a range of classic Supercars back to life – but not all of them have an endless list of trophies attached to them.

Among the 11-car field for the Phillip Island season-opener this weekend is a Ford Falcon which never raced in the main game: BA1905.

Tony Auddino will be aboard the car which was long in the MW Motorsport stable, debuting in the hands of team owner Matt White at the 2006 Super2 round at Mallala.

It was actually the first car built in-house by MWM; the chassis had initially been set to enter the Larkham Motorsport fold, only the Ford team to close at the end of 2005.

Several drivers cycled through it over the course of the next five years, including Marcus Marshall, John McIntyre, Geoff Emery, Andy Knight, Damian Assaillit, Matthew Hamilton, Tom Tweedie and future British GT ace Ben Barker.

Barker has gone on to chalk up a number of Bathurst 12 Hour class wins with Grove Racing.

Assaillit took the car’s sole victory at Winton in 2009, before it was upgraded to BF specification at the end of the season.

Since its final Super2 race at Homebush in 2011, the car has made sporadic appearances in V8 Touring Cars/Super3 with Morgan Haber (2013), Peter Rullo (2015) and Auddino (2018 onwards).

Also on the grid will be three former Craig Lowndes cars.

Tony Evangelou will be behind the wheel of Lowndes’ first Ford Performance Racing Supercar, Jamie Tilley in the Triple Eight FG Falcon which Jonathon Webb later drove to victory, and Jim Pollicina is driving the VE Commodore which powered Lowndes to the 2012 championship runner-up.

Jude Bargwanna meanwhile is looking to give FPR 808 its third title in as many different classes of Supercars racing.
