Tickford switches to new number for Townsville

TICKFORD Racing will roll out a special change of number for rookie Declan Fraser at this weekend’s NTI Townsville 500.

Fraser’s Tradie Mustang will switch from #56 to #777, which he ran through go-karting, Toyota 86s and Super2 – including last year’s second-tier title.

Tickford has afforded the 22-year-old the opportunity given Townsville is somewhat his home race.

Fraser was born in the Victorian town of Castlemaine but was brought up in Mackay, 385km south of Townsville.

It will mark the first time in nearly 15 years that the #777 has appeared in a Supercars Championship race.

That last outing came at the 2008 Oran Park finale on the Ford Rising Stars BF Falcon of Michael Patrizi.

The only other driver in history to have donned the #777 in a solo capacity is Angus Fogg, at two rounds in 2001 for Team Kiwi Racing.

It’s been a brutal initiation to the main game for Fraser, who is 25th in the championship.

There were signs of promise in Darwin though, including being Tickford’s top qualifier (14th) for Race 2 at Hidden Valley.
