Triple Eight issues van Gisbergen statement

TRIPLE Eight Race Engineering has released a short statement regarding the future of its three-time Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen.

Van Gisbergen has openly expressed his intentions to exit Supercars at the end of 2023, despite being under contract with Triple Eight for next year, to pursue a career in NASCAR.

A succession plan has now been locked in, with Will Brown to replace the Kiwi.

Erebus Motorsport today announced it will grant Brown an early release from his contract, allowing him to switch camps in the upcoming off-season.

Triple Eight though is not yet playing its cards.

“Shane is a contracted driver with Triple Eight until advised otherwise,” read a statement from the team.

“If this changes, it will be communicated by the team.

“We will be making no further comment.”

Van Gisbergen is believed to be weighing up offers from various NASCAR teams; meanwhile he has declared an interest in co-driving for Triple Eight in the 2024 enduros.
