Triple Eight takes fresh look into Gen3

TRIPLE Eight Race Engineering has revealed a revamped race livery for its Gen3 Camaro Supercars.

There’s an increased dose of red at the rear of the cars, marking a fresh look for a team which has ordinarily made minimal changes to the appearance of its cars.

“I might be biased, but I think it’s the best-looking livery we’ve had,” said team principal Jamie Whincup.

“I think if you’re not excited to see that first (round) in Newcastle, then potentially motorsport isn’t for you.

“Every team has had a big reset, and no one knows what’s going to happen around a crazy little street track.

“Debuting new cars with less aerodynamics, bigger horsepower, and lighter weight – there’s so many unknows and that’s what sport’s all about.”

Triple Eight successfully debuted its two race cars on February 9, then sporting a test livery, but as the General Motors homologation team there has been plenty more work to be done over an extended period.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the people at Triple Eight,” he continued.

“Everyone watching at home will see two cars on track, but the hours, dedication, blood, sweat and tears that have gone into getting those cars on track and giving the drivers the opportunity to showcase that work, it’s without doubt Triple Eight’s biggest achievement – second to none.

“It’s something we’re so proud of and will be a part of our legacy.”

Three-time champion Shane van Gisbergen said: “I think the new cars look cool, especially the shape of it.

“The colours on the car are quite a big change for us this year as the last few years have been quite similar. The blue and red, mixed together with the white roof looks tough.

“The design and engineering team at Triple Eight have done a huge amount of work for the category along with a couple of other teams, but our mechanics have also done some crazy hours the last couple of months.

“The whole team has done a great job to get these cars ready the last couple of years. When we rolled out at our first test day, the cars ran faultlessly, so that was awesome and a testament to their work.”

He also voiced his excitement at having race engineer Andrew Edwards by his side for another season: “He’s really committed, and we get along well.

“He’s taught me a lot and pushed me to be better, and I’d love to keep improving on that relationship and get better and better.”

Teammate Broc Feeney carries momentum into the new season after winning Holden’s last ever Supercars race, with Newcastle hosting Round 1 on March 10-12.

“I’m so excited to get to Newcastle – what a place to host the first Gen3 race. It’s one of the toughest tracks on the Supercars calendar,” said the #88 driver.

“I raced in the Toyota 86 category there back in 2018, so it’s been quite a few years since I’ve been there.

“I feel like for every driver out there it’s going to be a big challenge rocking up to such a gnarly track in these brand-new cars, so it’s going to be an exciting weekend.

“The two 250km races are going to be hard work, but we’re looking forward to putting these cars to the test.”
