V8 Ute crown clinched by 14-year-old

A YOUNG gun has put himself on the motorsport map by claiming the 2023 Queensland V8 Utes Championship title at just 14 years of age.

Ashton ‘AJ’ Gealy sealed the deal on the weekend during a race meeting at Lakeside Park, where he took pole position and won all five races.

Gealy got the job done driving a Ford FG previously raced by Ben Dunn in the popular national V8 Utes series of old.

“A huge congratulations to my whole team! We are officially the 2023 V8 Ute Racing Qld Championship winners,” Gealy wrote on social media.

“I can’t thank you all enough for a hell of a year and for being there with me for this one.

“My first championship ever! Very happy to win this one for my Granddad in particular, he bleeds blue. And for my Nanna, you have a championship winner in the fleet!”

He cheekily added to V8 Sleuth: “Nice to see Fords still winning races!”

Gealy hails from the Sunshine Coast and began racing at age eight.

His first V8 Ute round win came back in February at Queensland Raceway.
