Valentino Rossi set for Bathurst 12 Hour start

THE 2023 Bathurst 12 Hour is tipped to gain significant star power with motorsport icon Valentino Rossi firming to make the grid.

Rossi, of course, is perhaps the most famous rider in the history of two-wheel racing, with nine world championships to his name including seven in the premier class MotoGP.

Speculation has intensified about his chances of tackling Mount Panorama following news this morning that BMW M Team WRT will field two cars in the once-around-the-clock race in early February.

Although the team has not yet assigned drivers to that particular event, Rossi is well and truly in the frame, according to a NewsCorp report.

‘The Doctor’ spent his first year since retiring from MotoGP competing in GT World Challenge Europe with Team WRT.

The Belgian squad has since switched from Audi to BMW, and Rossi has already tested the M4 GT3 which will compete at Bathurst on February 3-5.

BMW has committed to a full campaign in the 2023 Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli and has a 20-strong roster of drivers on its books.

Rossi has tasted plenty of success Down Under, winning on eight occasions at Phillip Island (six in the premier, two in 250cc).

Team WRT meanwhile has previously won the Bathurst 12 Hour, during its Audi days in 2018.
