VIDEO: Polesitting BMW crashes out of Bathurst 12 Hour

BMW’S hopes of winning the Repco Bathurst 12 Hour have been halved after its polesitting #32 entry crashed out of the race in the fifth hour.

Charles Weerts was running in third place right behind teammate Maxime Martin in the #46 entry as they prepared to lap the GT4-class #55 Ginetta, driven by Colin White, as a train of leading contenders approached the Cutting on Lap 120.

Martin made it through before the kink but Weerts made contact with the Ginetta as he attempted to pass it around the outside, sending the M4 crashing heavily backwards into the concrete wall.

Co-driver Sheldon van der Linde had qualified the car on pole position and led the opening stint, before the BMWs fell behind the #912 Porsche through the latter’s pit strategy.

Weerts was uninjured in the crash, while the Ginetta was able to return to the race after damage on its right-front corner was repaired.
