WATCH: MOFFAT MONZA RETURNS TO THE RACETRACK

THE ex-Allan Moffat Chevrolet Monza has hit the track for the first time in the hands of new owner Zak Brown.

The Walkinshaw Andretti United co-owner and McLaren Formula 1 boss drove the car at Supercar Driver’s annual Secret Meet at Donington Park in England.

The Monza was one of a handful of IMSA-spec Monzas built by DeKon Engineering in the United States in 1975, and campaigned by Moffat in a handful of IMSA races that year.

Moffat then bought the car and shipped it home. After extensive debate about its eligibility, he drove it in selected events on the way to the 1976 Sports Sedan title.

It completed only a handful more races in Moffat’s hands before being sold off, eventually heading back to the US in the 1990s.

Brown purchased the car in early 2021, adding it to his impressive collection of motorsport machinery spanning many different four-wheel categories around the world.

The Monza was one of several of Brown’s collection that was in action at Donington, joining one of the Williams FW07B chassis that Alan Jones raced to the 1980 F1 world championship title and one of the Audi 200 Quattros that was outlawed from the Trans Am Series in America in the 1980s.
