Waters talks toeing team line at The Bend

CAM Waters has admitted to a sense of frustration about being ordered to hold station in Race 1 of the OTR SuperSprint as a drought-breaking podium loomed agonisingly within reach.

Waters’ last podium came in the first ever Gen3 Supercars race back in March, with 19 races having passed since.

The Tickford Racing star looked to have pace on teammate Thomas Randle ahead in the closing laps, but reluctantly settled for fourth.

“I wasn’t that impressed,” Waters said post-race of the team orders.

“I wanted them to put their faith in their drivers and let us race but I pulled the team line that one time – I probably won’t do it again.

“It’s good for the team to get good points and we have got fast cars so we have got to put it all together and hopefully we can win some races from now on.”

Waters did however express happiness for Randle, who took his maiden Supercars Championship solo podium.

Randle thanked Waters for his part.

“I’ve got to say a big thanks to Cam, I think he was looking out for me a bit there,” said the Castrol Mustang driver.

“We look after each other behind the scenes a bit… I have got to look after him now. I’m sure he is going to want a tow in quali tomorrow.”

Brodie Kostecki won the 20-lapper to extend his championship lead to 80 points.
