WAU rookie to race for Porsche at Sepang

WALKINSHAW Andretti United young gun Ryan Wood will compete in the Sepang 12 Hours, Porsche has confirmed.

The German manufacturer’s Asia-Pacific division has named a five-car tilt for the Malaysian enduro this weekend.

Among its driver roster will be Supercars rookie Wood, in EBM Giga Racing’s #61 Porsche 911 GT3 R (991.2).

The Kiwi will team up at the event with Adrian D’Silva and Tanart Sathienthirakul.

“I’m excited to partner up again with the EBM Giga Racing crew at the Sepang 12 Hours,” said Wood, who yesterday completed a Supercars rookie test at The Bend Motorsport Park.

“I’m looking forward to racing with Adrian and Tanart and hopefully we can pick up a strong result.

“It’s my first time racing in the Porsche 911 GT3 R (991.2) and my debut at Sepang, so I’m up for the challenge!”

Compatriot Matt Payne will also take part in the event, sharing a Mercedes-AMG GT3 with his Grove Racing bosses Stephen and Brenton Grove.

Payne and Wood will then swiftly return to Australia in time for Round 2 of the Repco Supercars Championship on March 21-24 at Albert Park.
