BRITISH star Robert Huff has lapped up a two-fold welcome to Australia, including the opportunity to drive a V8 at Eastern Creek.
Huff is in town for this weekend’s Race Sydney, which doubles as a round of the Kumho TCR World Tour and the penultimate stop on the TCR Australia calendar.
The 43-year-old brings quite the resume, having beaten the likes of Alain Menu and Yvan Muller to the 2012 World Touring Car Championship crown, and last year winning the final WTCR World Touring Car Cup.
Yesterday, the Audi Sport Comtoyou driver hopped behind the wheel of the Isuzu D-Max which just powered Aaron Borg to the 2023 V8 SuperUtes title.
Huff drove the car at Sydney Motorsport Park and declared his genuine desire to have another crack.
“These are proper fun. So much power, so good under brakes and just makes you smile the whole time,” he said.
“If there is ever and opportunity to race one of these I’m all in!”
Today, several of the TCR World Tour contingent who’ve made the trip Down Under had a different kind of Aussie experience, at Sydney Zoo.
“It’s an amazing opportunity to come race in Australia,” said Huff, who has made multiple starts in the Bathurst 12 Hour.
“It’s a massive privilege for us. To come somewhere like Sydney Zoo and get involved with the local wildlife was something special. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a koala.
“I have seen a few kangaroos at Bathurst on the track as well as off the track, but the first time coming here and doing something like this.
“Meeting Nelson the Koala was an experience. He wasn’t that active and was just chilling, so it’s a pretty stress-free life he’s got going on over there.”
The two-day Race Sydney meeting starts tomorrow and precedes the Bathurst International on November 10-12.
