KAI Allen hopes a perfect start to his Super2 title defence impressed Dick Johnson Racing.
Future opportunities are on the horizon for the 18-year-old, who raced a DJR Bathurst 1000 wildcard last year and will co-drive the #17 Shell V-Power Mustang with Will Davison in the 2024 enduros.
Allen is biding his time via another Super2 campaign this year with Eggleston Motorsport, with many tipping him to be a contender for a 2025 main game seat – especially given both DJR primary drivers are off-contract at the end of the season.
Allen has consistently spoken about placing a premium on developing as a driver, as opposed to sheer results, and that could put him in good stead come next year.
“I just want another development year in the series,” he said after winning two-from-two at the 2024 Bathurst Super2 opener.
“Even though we went quite well last year, I just want to tick all of the boxes that I wanted to tick last year and learn from the lessons I learnt last year, which has been good.
“At the moment I’m not too worried about the championship, I just want to bag a few points in the first couple of rounds and just see where we end up the last couple of rounds and see what happens.”
Nevertheless, he was open about hoping to have impressed DJR with his Mount Panorama success – and with what’s still to come.
“We’re just working tightly with Eggleston Motorsport to make sure I’m learning as much as I can throughout the rest of the year and then hopefully I have impressed them and it will be interesting to see what the rest of the year holds,” said Allen.
The #1 Coca-Cola Commodore driver leads the Super2 standings by 42 points from Kelly Racing’s Aaron Cameron.
