Avalon announced for proposed new circuit

THE AVALON Airport Precinct has been confirmed as the location for the proposed Victorian Home of Motorsport.

The state’s Labor Government today pledged an initial $1.6 million towards designing and planning of the venue, to be based on a 150-hectare site south of Melbourne.

That phase of the project will include considering the best track configuration possible.

A multi-purpose facility was named as a priority in the recently published 2022-32 Victorian Motorsport Infrastructure and Participation Strategy, including a high-level, versatile circuit.

“Motorsport is a great Victorian passion and pastime for many, and it also supports thousands of jobs and delivers significant economic benefits to our state,” said Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos.

“A Home of Motorsport at Avalon would inspire and encourage the development of up-and-coming drivers in their efforts to become household names like local heroes Oscar Piastri and Cameron Waters.”

Ella George, the Member for Lara, added: “We’re backing the Home of Motorsport to be established at Avalon because we know the major economic and sporting benefits it will deliver to our local community.”
