Bathurst 12 Hour team signs ex-PremiAir guru

FORMER PremiAir Racing director of engineering Geoff Slater will vie for another bout of Bathurst glory next month.

Tigani Motorsport has secured the services of Slater, who guided Tekno Autosport to victory in both the 2016 Bathurst 12 Hour and 2016 Bathurst 1000.

Slater recently resigned from his PremiAir post amid a reshuffle at the Supercars squad, which has welcomed Ludo Lacroix and Mirko De Rosa into its ranks. He is known to be exploring various career opportunities within the motorsport sector.

“I think we’ve got a good addition with Geoff Slater onboard for the 12 Hour,” said Tigani Motorsport owner Nathan Tigani.

“He’s bringing all of his expertise and knowledge.

“He’s got a lot, he’s very experienced, so it’s good to piggyback off that for both of our entries.”

Tigani had already announced the driver line-up for its Mercedes-AMG entry in the 2024 Repco Bathurst 12 Hour, that being the Supabarn Racing quartet of Jonathon Webb, David Russell, and brothers James and Theo Koundouris.

It has now showed its cards for its Valmont Racing Audi, with regulars Marcel Zalloua and Sergio Pires joined by Luke Youlden and Brad Shiels.

“Another striking livery for the Valmont Racing entry. It looks sensational,” said Tigani.

“And another solid driver line-up with Luke Youlden coming onboard and Brad Shiels a local specialist around Bathurst.

“It’s exciting for Marcel Zalloua and Sergio Pires. They’ve got a good bit of experience now, coming back from Highlands, and they’re seasoned campaigners, having been in GT racing for five years.

“It’ll be good for them the bounce off the knowledge of Luke and Brad and hopefully get a result. That’s the goal for this year. Especially for that car after the pace they showed in 2023.”

“Certainly a result in class, but a top 10 outright would be even better.”

The 2024 Bathurst 12 Hour will be held across February 16-18.
