THE Holden Supercar fielded as a Triple Eight wildcard in last month’s Repco Bathurst 1000 will race at the Adelaide 500.
V8 Sleuth understands the decision has now been finalised to wheel out 888A-053 for PremiAir Racing’s James Golding, whose usual Subway ZB Commodore was at the centre of a multi-car Surfers Paradise shunt nine days ago.
PremiAir had hoped to fix the car in time for Holden’s last ever Repco Supercars Championship event on December 1-4.
The team, including Golding, quickly set about stripping down the wreckage in the days after the Gold Coast 500.
However, the damage to 888A-044 has proven substantial enough that it won’t be repaired before Adelaide – especially as work on the Gen3 project ramps up this month.
The Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang prototypes are in the midst of a week-long VCAT at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport.
Teams are still waiting on parts to assemble cars in full ahead of a mooted initial test in December following the Adelaide season finale.
PremiAir will be the only customer squad to run turnkey Triple Eight Camaros in 2023, given Team 18 will now complete its own panel assembly.
Despite the Gold Coast setback which left him with a sprained wrist, Golding has impressed in his six-round comeback thus far, doing enough to earn a contract extension for 2023.
Chassis 888A-053 was driven to eighth place at Bathurst by Craig Lowndes and Declan Fraser in the best ever Great Race result for a wildcard entry.
