Johnson signs with Ford Super2 squad

JETT Johnson will step up into the Dunlop Super2 Series this year with burgeoning Ford squad AIM Motorsport.

Johnson is set to drive a #117 ex-Tickford Racing Mustang engineered by Erik Pender – the guru behind Greg Murphy’s ‘Lap of the Gods’ performance.

The 18-year-old is testing today at Winton Motor Raceway, along with teammate Zane Morse.

The latter, a Super2 podium finisher last year, is being engineered by new AIM team principal Adam DeBorre.

Johnson, the grandson of ATCC legend Dick, graduates after finishing Super3 runner-up in 2023 aboard a Kelly Racing-owned Nissan Altima.

“We’d been speaking with Steven and Jett about how he wants to pursue his racing career and the number one thing they said with us is the way we’re perceived around the pits and having that family atmosphere is what they want to be involved in,” AIM co-owner Andre Morse told V8 Sleuth.

“I think the big thing that people have got to realise with Jett is that he didn’t do any test days last year at all.

“He just turned up and raced, whereas we’re obviously going to give him proper test days and hopefully we can help him get up to speed.

“Hopefully with a teammate it will push both of the young men.

“The good thing about Zane is that he doesn’t have an ego, so he will help Jett as much as he can. If Jett can be beating Zane, that’s even better because it is going to push Zane to another level.

“We’ll help him get up to speed and then whoever is faster, is faster – that’s how it works.”
