Kelly graduates into 23-car Bathurst Super2 field

MASON Kelly will continue his march towards the main game by stepping up into the Dunlop Super2 Series.

The son of 2005 Bathurst 1000 winner Todd competed in Super3 last season, offering various glimpses of promise including outpacing the entire Super2 field in a wet Adelaide practice session.

Now the 18-year-old will progress into a Kelly Racing-owned Mustang, in what shapes to be a sterner test of where he’s at.

That test will start from within, with Aaron Cameron to provide a high benchmark in another Kelly Mustang, the Gold Star winner returning to build on a three-round 2023 campaign.

Kelly’s Altima-to-Mustang transition mirrors that of another rising star in Jett Johnson, who has signed with AIM Motorsport.

Per the release of further supplementary regulations, a total of 23 Super2 cars have been entered for next weekend’s Bathurst season-opener, although one of those remains up in the air – namely the fourth Eggleston Motorsport Commodore.

The driver of the #38, vacated by Cameron Crick, has been listed as ‘TBC’.

There are just a further two Super3 entries: Cody Burcher and Thomas Maxwell in MW Motorsport Nissans.

That represents a reunion between Maxwell and MWM, the 25-year-old having raced for the championship-winning squad in the 2022 Super2 Series – his campaign headlined by pole position at Sandown.
