THE Supercars engineer silly season has kicked off, with a high-profile figure the first domino to fall into place.
V8 Sleuth has learnt Walkinshaw Andretti United guru Adam De Borre is expected to step away from Supercars altogether at the end of the year.
Notably, De Borre has been Chaz Mostert’s right-hand man for almost the latter’s entire Supercars Championship career.
The duo were loaned from Ford Performance Racing (now Tickford Racing) to Dick Johnson Racing in 2013, and then continued working together at FPR/Prodrive in 2014-15.
Their sole season apart was 2016, when De Borre was recruited by DJR Team Penske; they reunited at Tickford the following year and together moved across to WAU at the start of 2020.
However, they are not the only long-standing driver/engineer combination set to end.

The second-longest, David Reynolds/Alistair McVean, are also expected to part ways at season’s end.
McVean is understood to be staying at Grove Racing, most likely working with recruit Richie Stanaway, while Reynolds heads to Team 18 (potentially working with current Car #20 engineer Richard Hollway).
McVean linked up with Reynolds at Erebus Motorsport during the back half of the 2016 season, and they together moved to Kelly Grove Racing for 2021.
With all primary driver seats almost sorted, engineers, co-drivers and naming rights sponsor negotiations are set to take centre stage in the coming three to six months.
