Ryco Race Guide: 2024 Melbourne SuperSprint session times

IN 2024 our great mates at Ryco are helping bring V8 Sleuth readers these quick-bite stories that have all of the information for each round of the Repco Supercars Championship in the one place in our Ryco Race Guide.

The Larry Perkins Trophy is on the line this weekend at Albert Park for the overall winner of the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint.

There will be 24 drivers taking to the track at Albert Park with 14 Chevrolet Camaros and 10 Ford Mustangs in the 2024 field with a range of experience and youth filling the seats.

This year’s Albert Park event marks the fifth time that Supercars have raced for championship points at the Grand Prix (the first was in 2018 and there were no races in 2020-21).

Last year’s Supercars champion Brodie Kostecki won the 2023 Larry Perkins Trophy on his way to the season title. He won two of the four races with single successes to Red Bull Ampol duo Shane van Gisbergen and Broc Feeney.

What is the Race Format for the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint?

There are four races at Albert Park, one each on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and they are Races 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship.

The Thursday and Friday races are due to be over 19 laps (105-kilometres) and the weekend races are due to be over 14 laps (80 kilometres). There are time certain finishes for all races.

There are no compulsory pit stops for any of the races and all cars will use the Dunlop Soft tyre for this event.

What time are the Supercars sessions for the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint?

Thursday March 21: Practice 1 (11.25 – 11.55am), Practice 2 (1.25 – 1.55pm), Qualifying Race 3 (3.10 – 3.25pm), Qualifying Race 4 (3.35 – 3.50pm), Race 3 (Starts 5.55pm, 19 laps or 1 lap after 6.33pm)

Friday March 22: Race 4 (Starts 2.55pm, 19 laps or 1 lap after 3.33pm)

Saturday March 23: Qualifying Race 5 (9.00 – 9.15am), Qualifying Race 6 (9.25 – 9.40am), Race 5 (Starts 5.40pm, 14 laps or 1 lap after 6.08pm)

Sunday March 24: Race 6 (Starts 10.25am, 14 laps or 1 lap after 10.53am)

Can I stream the Melbourne SuperSprint?

The Melbourne SuperSprint will be available on Foxtel Go and Kayo as well as the 10 Play app.

How many championship points are available at the Melbourne SuperSprint?

There is a maximum of 320 championship points available, 75 for the winner of each of the four races and a bonus five points for the driver that sets the fastest lap in each of the races. The driver must finish in the top 15 to be eligible for the bonus points.

What is the Supercars lap record at Albert Park?

Scott Pye currently holds the Supercars overall lap record at Albert Park on the current layout of the circuit. He lapped in 1m46.0060s in 2022.

Last year’s fastest race lap in the first year of the Gen3 cars was a 1m47.3555s set by Broc Feeney in the Sunday race.
