Seton set for Sierra drive in Adelaide

AARON Seton will get his maiden taste of Group A touring car machinery this weekend.

The third-generation driver will be behind the wheel of an ex-Murray Carter Ford Sierra as part of the Heritage Touring Cars class at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival.

Carter holds a specific place in Australian Touring Car Championship history as the runaway stat leader of most podiums (20) without a win.

Meanwhile for Seton, the opportunity is fitting given his father Glenn spent four seasons racing a Sierra.

“I’ve never driven a Group A car so I’m excited to see what the Sierra is like,” Aaron told V8 Sleuth.

“Obviously Dad and his team ran Sierras for a few years and he really enjoys getting back behind the wheel of them so I’m looking forward to tasting it for myself and just thankful for Andrew (Cavalli) and the team at Autosport for the opportunity to be part of the festival.”

The 24-year-old will share the Victoria Park section of the Adelaide circuit with Formula 1 ace Valtteri Bottas, who will make a Sunday appearance in Heritage Touring Cars aboard an Alfa Romeo GTV 6.

The Finn will then hop in a Supercar for the first time: the 2016 Bathurst 1000-winning Holden Commodore.

“It will be pretty cool being out there with a current F1 driver – I’m excited to be on track with Valtteri, that’s for sure,” Seton said.

Seton, who is chasing a second Great Race start this October, is seventh in the 2023 Super2 standings after Round 1 at Newcastle.

“Newcastle was a tough weekend for us,” he reflected.

“We didn’t really have a lot of car pace there, just struggled but thankfully we were able to steer clear of the drama in the races and bank some solid points.

“So definitely all of us here at Gomersall Motorsport are working hard to make sure that we’re back fighting at the front come Perth.”
