Standalone 2024 GT4 Australia calendar unveiled

A SIX-ROUND standalone GT4 Australia schedule has been released for next year, with SRO Motorsport Group confirmed as category manager.

GT4 was launched by global powerhouse SRO in 2007 and has had a small presence in Australia as a class within the GT3-centric Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS series.

GT4 has also in recent times been run as a class within Australian Production Cars, managed by Production Car Racing Pty Ltd.

There has been a looming battle over the 2024 GT4 rights, and intriguingly, the GT4 component of APC has been rebranded ‘Production Invited’. APC has been linked to a switch to the AASA-aligned Hi-Tec Oils Super Series.

Regardless, Motorsport Australia has welcomed the GT4 expansion under SRO’s watch.

“It’s going to be an exciting year for GT4 in Australia, with a new standalone series in 2024 part of the Shannons SpeedSeries suite of categories,” said Motorsport Australia’s Michael Smith.

“We’ve already seen its potential this year and it has certainly proven to be a popular category.

“We look forward to seeing it grow further under SRO’s leadership as a standalone series as part of a broader global GT platform.”

SRO founder Stephane Ratel added: “SRO are very excited to enter GT4 Australia into the Australian motorsport market as a standalone category for the first time in 2024.

“We see GT4 as a vital piece in the growth of GT racing throughout Australia as we plan on building GT racing in Australia as we have globally.

“GT4 globally is a category designed for both semi-professional and young aspiring professional drivers which is why we will be implementing the same philosophy in Australia.”

The 2024 season will kick off at Phillip Island on April 12-14.

From there it will follow the SpeedSeries to The Bend (May 24-26), Queensland Raceway (July 19-21), a to-be-confirmed venue (August 30-September 1), Sydney Motorsport Park (October 18-20) and Mount Panorama (November 8-10).
