Super2 race winner joins Trans Am surge

MULTIPLE Super2 race winner Tyler Everingham has become the latest talented driver to join the 2023 National Trans Am Series.

Everingham has signed with Calder Park-based Dream Racing Australia, the team with which Nathan Herne won the 2021 title.

The 22-year-old joins Jaylyn Robotham (The Racing Academy) in switching from Super2 to Trans Am this year. Veteran James Moffat (Garry Rogers Motorsport) will also be in the field, having shifted from TCR Australia.

Everingham, the 2018 V8 Touring Car Series champion and a two-time Bathurst 1000 starter, has not given up on his Repco Supercars Championship dream though.

“I haven’t driven a Trans Am yet, so I’m looking forward to my first laps,” said the Dubbo product.

“I have a test day coming next week at Winton, which will be good preparation for the first round.

“Trans Am is a class I’ve been interested in for a while. It’s a good pathway, so I wanted to make the jump across to a class where you can get lots of race laps in.

“My drive is still to make it to Supercars, and with Gen3 coming on, I thought it was important to get a feel for a different car so I can be ready for Supercars.

“It should be a very competitive Trans Am field. I’m looking forward to racing some of the experienced guys and the new guys.”

Everingham will lead a four-car squad into the Symmons Plains opener on February 24-26, with Adam Garwood, Josh Webster and team owner Craig Scutella as his teammates.

Garwood at this stage is only a lock for Round 1, while the rest of the squad are committed to the full season.

“Dream Racing Australia is excited to welcome Tyler, Adam and Josh to the team,” said Scutella.

“Tyler is a multiple race winner in Super2, and we really feel that Tyler will light up Trans Am.

“With some luck and continued full focus, we are confident that he will be fighting for wins all season.

“Adam is very excited to run Symmons Plains. He is a great talent, and he nearly joined our team two years ago to race Trans Am, but we didn’t get that deal done.

“If all goes well in Symmons Plains and chooses to continue in Trans Am – DRA will work fanatically to continue his success story.

“Josh is a great young talent. He has enjoyed a lot of success in other Tasmanian race categories, so it’s the perfect time for him to step up to a national level and we have no doubt that he will surprise many.”
