Two-time 12 Hour-winning BMW back at Bathurst

A CAR that has twice conquered the Bathurst 12 Hour will this weekend strive to add a 6 Hour crown to its Mount Panorama haul.

The orange BMW 335i which owner Peter O’Donnell will share with Matt Chahda and Garry Mennell at the 2024 edition of the Easter production car enduro has quite the resume.

It was the car which won outright in the 2007 Bathurst 12 Hour – the event’s first running in 13 years – pedalled on that occasion by Craig Baird, Garry Holt and Paul Morris.

That same trio placed third the following year, before Holt, Morris and John Bowe drove the 335i to outright victory in 2010.

It continued being entered in the 12 Hour until 2017, and has since then made three starts in the Bathurst 6 Hour (2017, 2021 and 2023).

O’Donnell, Chahda and Mennell have all previously raced the chassis at different times across its 12 Hour/6 Hour history.

All up, the car has completed a remarkable 3479 laps of Mount Panorama, equating to 21,615km.

Its entry in the 2024 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour will be on charitable grounds too, supporting Ronald McDonald House Central West NSW.

Action at the Mountain starts tomorrow.
