Utes legend announces Toyota switch

RYAL Harris will shift into Toyota machinery in pursuit of his sixth Australian ute racing title.

As reported last week by V8 Sleuth, Harris is switching back to the Haltech V8 SuperUte Series after a single season in Super2.

It has now been confirmed Harris will drive the Hilux campaigned by Craig Woods last year.

Harris will run his beloved #58 with major backing from both EFS and Super Butcher.

The Gold Coaster’s previous title successes have come in either a Ford Falcon (2012, ‘13 and ‘15) or Mazda BT-50 (2018 and ‘21), while his winning return to the category at the Gold Coast last October was aboard a Ford Ranger.

“Really excited to be back in the SuperUte,” said Harris.

“With more cars on the grid, we’ll have even more fast guys up the front.

“I think we’re heading back to our glory days and I can’t wait to prove all the naysayers wrong with really exciting racing this year.

“I think the category is awesome, it’s a great stepping stone for drivers out of Toyota 86 or those like me who are semi-professional, we have a great TV package and we’re on all the great rounds.

“The cars are awesome to drive, they’re refined each year, the tyre and brake package is great and parity is there, which is the most important thing.

“I’m very much putting my Super2 woes from last year in the rear-view mirror and looking forward to this season and another Ute championship!”

The six-round SuperUte schedule will take in stops at Perth, Sydney Motorsport Park, The Bend, Sandown, Bathurst and the Gold Coast.
