Xiberras explains Bathurst 12 Hour inspiration

PREMIAIR Racing is soon to embark on a new challenge but it still comes with a Supercars-orientated motivation.

The Peter Xiberras-owned team last year broadened its horizons to enter the Repco Supercars Championship, its focus having previously centred solely on drag racing.

Now, PremiAir is dipping its toes in the GT world with a surprise debut in the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour next month.

Asked what inspired the campaign, Xiberras didn’t hesitate.

“Mainly just to get the drivers to do more driving, basically,” he told V8 Sleuth, with reference to his Supercars steerers Tim Slade and James Golding.

“I’m one of these guys where if an opportunity comes knocking, you either grab it and do it or you pass it by.

While PremiAir has not yet announced its driver line-up for the February 3-5 enduro, Xiberras affirmed it will contain at least one of Slade or Golding, if not both.

They will drive the new-spec Audi R8 LMS Evo owned by Brad Schumacher.

PremiAir is in a different situation to its Supercars competitors, being the only team waiting on turnkey Gen3 cars.

While others are fully assembling their own, PremiAir staff are assisting supplier Triple Eight Race Engineering with the build of its two Chevrolet Camaros.
