Australian motorsport history saved for generations to come

ICONIC Australian motorsport publication ‘Motorsport News’ is being saved digitally for generations to enjoy for years to come in a special collaboration between V8 Sleuth parent company AN1 Media and a Melbourne-based social enterprise.

The V8 Sleuth team has been working on the project since last year with Jigsaw, a social enterprise that revolutionises the way people with disability prepare for the workforce by embedding an innovative training program within a real business.

All of Jigsaw Digital’s services are delivered by people with disability, paid at award wage, part of a training pathway to support their ultimate goal to succeed in mainstream employment where they progress through training, paid work experience and transition to mainstream employment at their own pace.

The archive of Motorsport News magazines and Motorsport eNews digital magazines is available to gain access to here via the V8 Sleuth Issuu site.

The landmark Issue 1 of Motorsport News published in 1993 is available here free to access for readers below.

The Issuu site allows readers to gain access to copies of the magazine in an easy-to-use flipbook format.

The Jigsaw team has been digitising scores and scores of issues of the popular motorsport magazine that was first published in 1993 as a fortnightly in a ‘newspaper’ format, before switching to a more traditional magazine format from mid-2000 onwards.

Chuck Smeeton, National Training Manager, Jigsaw Australia, says the project has been a winner for the organisation.

“Our trainees have loved the opportunity to develop their skills on such an interesting job,” he says. “Thank you to AN1 Media for the magazine digitisation project.”

Motorsport News was published as a fortnightly through to 2007 when the decision was made to turn the printed magazine into a monthly and establish a weekly online news magazine, Motorsport eNews.

eNews ran until 2012 when it was discontinued and the printed monthly magazine was discontinued after the 2013 racing season was completed.

Motorsport News was acquired by V8 Sleuth parent company AN1 Media in September 2021 and has since been re-born as a weekly award-winning podcast.

The V8 Sleuth team has just finished uploading all 240 issues of eNews published between 2007 and 2012.

All bar a small handful of the ‘newspaper’ issues from 1993 to mid 2000 have been uploaded and are now available online.

A wide range of magazine format issues from mid-2000 onwards are now available to access with plenty more to be added in upcoming weeks and months as Jigsaw Connect’s trainees continue to digitise magazine back issues.

V8 Sleuth’s Issuu website page is also where free online digital Official Programs for various rounds of the Repco Supercars Championship can also be found.

If you have digitisation, information management or other admin work you could outsource to Jigsaw’s talented team, or you have a goal to employ more people with disability in your team, get in touch with them here.
