BRT’s small step in the right direction

THE Blanchard Racing Team is still anchored to the bottom of the Supercars teams’ championship, but it will head to New Zealand with a degree of momentum.

After a torrid start to life as a full-time two-car main game team at the Bathurst 500, BRT put some results on the board last week at Albert Park.

James Courtney recorded its first top 10 result of the season, claiming eighth in the Thursday sprint.

Rookie teammate Aaron Love meanwhile had a much-needed clean race weekend, typified by him navigating some Sunday carnage to finish 12th – the best result of his young career to date.

“Overall the pace wasn’t great but we improved and the results got better,” said BRT boss Tim Blanchard.

“There is still a lot of development to be done and we feel like we’re making some good steps in the right direction.”

BRT also brought its spare Gen3 Mustang to Albert Park, where it completed passenger laps in the hands of Formula 1 pointscorer Liam Lawson.

Next up is the inaugural ITM Taupō Super400 on April 19-21.

Love, who won a race at the circuit late last year, is keen to build on his Melbourne SuperSprint progress.

“Obviously we’ll try to keep on moving forward,” said the Perth product.

“Bathurst was a bit of a tough round to start off the year.

“AGP went relatively well; we started to get some good traction and some good pace and results towards the end of the weekend, so we’ll keep on trying to build that into New Zealand and just keep on learning and trying to not make any mistakes.”
