YET another Murphy is climbing up the motorsport ladder, with the 19-year-old son of Bathurst 1000 legend Greg securing a key opportunity for his budding career.

Greg and Ronan Murphy last month engaged in a special driver swap at Sydney Motorsport Park, with Ronan taking his father for a spin in his Porsche Sprint Challenge car before they reversed roles as Greg hopped behind the wheel of a Gen3 Supercar.

Ronan has already chalked up a Sprint Challenge race win this year; now his younger brother Cormac is ready to make his own mark.

With his background predominantly in motocross, Cormac Murphy will up the ante on his transition into the four-wheel circuit racing scene after being signed by the Race Lab Drivers Academy to contest the 2023/24 Toyota 86 New Zealand Championship.

“A huge thank you to everyone at Race Lab for having me onboard this season,” he said.

“Stoked to be working with such an awesome group of people, I’m here to do as best as I possibly can every single session.

“To do so, having a team that wants to do the same gives me the best possible shot.”

Cormac earlier this year competed in the North Island Endurance Series, sharing a Toyota 86 with fellow son-of-a-gun Clay Richards.

Brock Gilchrist, the 2023 Toyota 86 New Zealand champion, last month tested a Triple Eight Camaro Supercar as part of the prize for winning the title.
