Stacked entry list for Trans Am opener

THE full field has been unveiled for Round 1 of the National Trans Am Series, with no shortage of key contenders among the 19-strong entry list.

It was already known that four drivers from the 2022 Repco Bathurst 1000 would be on the Symmons Plains grid, including veterans Tim Slade and James Moffat.

Slade is making a cameo appearance for The Racing Academy, while Moffat has changed programs within the Garry Rogers Motorsport stable having previously focus on TCR Australia.

Like Moffat, Super2 race winners Tyler Everingham and Jaylyn Robotham are contesting full Trans Am campaigns, with Dream Racing Australia and The Racing Academy respectively.

Among notable series returnees are former Supercars and NASCAR driver Owen Kelly, who was runner-up to Nathan Herne last year.

Kelly and Lochie Dalton have stayed on with GRM, whose four-pronged 2023 title assault is rounded out by Moffat and recruit Edan Thornburrow (Herne having moved to the United States).

Rising third-generation driver Jett Johnson is back for another season, as is Ben Grice, the son of two-time Great Race winner Allan Grice.

Practice at Symmons Plains will kick off on Friday, ahead of three Trans Am races across the weekend.
